The Saturday garden

CEFR A185 words

Yo llevo agua y ella lleva fruta.

Questions

You answer them with the text in front of you. It isn't memory: it's understanding.

  1. When do they arrive?

At ten o’clock — They arrive “a las diez”. Nine is the opening time; twelve is when they eat.

  2. Copy the Spanish word: Elena looks after the ___.

tomates — “Elena cuida los tomates” names her task. The narrator looks after the flowers.

  3. The narrator brings fruit.

False — “Yo llevo agua y ella lleva fruta”: the narrator brings water, while Elena brings fruit.

  4. What gives them shade when they eat?

Their sunshade — There are no trees, and they eat “bajo una sombrilla”. Together these details identify the sunshade as their source of shade.

  5. Which plan fits their feelings about the garden?

Another Saturday visit — They enjoy being outdoors and like this place. That makes another garden visit consistent with their feelings; the other choices do not.

  6. The garden opens before they arrive.

True — It opens at nine, and they arrive at ten. Compare the two times rather than treating them as the same event.
