A visit without a car
CEFR A2123 words

Questions
You answer them with the text in front of you. It isn't memory: it's understanding.
Why does the train fit better than his sister’s offer?
Il permet de déjeuner avec sa tante. — The morning train arrives before lunch; his sister is only free in the afternoon.
Nadir’s sister offers to drive him on Sunday. Why does he not include her in the announced lunch?
— His sister is only available in the afternoon. Nadir chooses the train that arrives before lunch, and his aunt prepares lunch for two. The car offer is too late for that plan. The story does not attribute her unavailability to Sunday work; the morning train does arrive before lunch.
If Nadir loses the message on arrival, which solution best respects his aunt’s situation?
— His aunt has difficulty walking and prefers to stay home. Resending directions lets Nadir reach her without making her travel; the other plans require her to go out.
Nadir calls his aunt from the station and she offers to go to the town-centre car park. Which reply respects her situation and the destination he needs to find?
» — The house is near the station and far from the car park, and his aunt has difficulty walking. Her directions allow Nadir to arrive without making her go out. Both outdoor meetings ignore this available solution and ask her to walk.
What can be concluded about the sister attending that lunch?
— The sister is only free in the afternoon; the aunt announces lunch for herself and Nadir.
If Nadir forgets the directions but keeps his booking, which part of his arrangement still works?
L’arrivée en train avant le repas. — The booking is for the morning train, which arrives before lunch. Losing the message makes the door harder to locate but does not change that timetable or make his sister or aunt travel companions.
