Negotiating a feasible format
B2.1 · Respond to a proposal, acknowledge its benefit and formulate a reasoned counterproposal.
Secure B1: explain reasons, link paragraphs, formulate conditions and distinguish proposals from commitments.
Model
Liebe Frau Winter,
Toni Weber

Task
Fictional case. Write in German to the coordinator of the neighbourhood repair workshop.
She proposes two shifts on Saturday, morning and afternoon, to reach more neighbours. Each shift needs three different helpers, because each person can work only one shift. Four helpers are confirmed and all can work in the afternoon; three could also work in the morning.
Hire costs 60 euros per shift and the maximum budget is 90 euros. The coordinator worries that shorter opening hours would exclude people who can only attend in the morning. Their number is unknown.
Acknowledge the proposal’s benefit, assess feasibility, offer a format respecting the constraints and address the concern without inventing staff or funds. Request the decision or information needed to continue.

Planning
- Connect each constraint to the full format, without counting a person twice.
- Choose an alternative and acknowledge whom it might disadvantage.
- Plan a response to the concern and a specific request, not a guarantee.
Criteria
- Present the plan’s benefit and limits, correctly linking staffing and cost.
Mark “achieved” when the evidence is present and consistent; “partial” when incomplete; “revise” when absent or contrary to the case. Justify the judgement with a quotation from your draft.
- Justify a counterproposal consistent with the constraints without expanding resources.

- Address the coordinator’s concern and distinguish unknown data from commitments.

- Organise argument and request with respectful register, contrast and precise conditions.

Review
Keep your first draft. Quote a passage for each criterion and use the three rubric categories. Rewrite a passage to improve meaning or language and explain the effect. If it already meets the criteria, document a specific check. The guide provides examples; it neither matches words nor calculates a grade.
