Turning notes into a newcomer guide
B1.1 · Select and organise practical information for a newcomer, explaining one choice.
A2 instructions and descriptions; sequencing, because/but and clear pronoun reference.
Model

Task
Write a short welcome guide for someone joining a community garden for the first time. Select and reorganise these unordered notes rather than translating a list: the first visit is Saturday 09:00–11:00; new members must speak to the coordinator at the gate before using tools; gloves may be borrowed but only in sizes M and L; visitors may bring their own gloves; covered shoes are required; drinking water is available; no experience is needed; a previous member liked the blue gate; the group has not yet decided which vegetables to plant next month. Include preparation, what to do on arrival and one reason for a useful recommendation. Decide what information the newcomer needs now and what can be left out. Do not turn an undecided plan into an instruction. This is an invented case. Write in Spanish. The word range is a guide, not an automatic pass/fail rule. Use the criteria for teacher assessment or self-assessment; there is no automatic mark.
120–180 words
Planning
- Which notes affect preparation or arrival, and which do not?
- What order helps a person who has never visited?
- Which recommendation can you justify without claiming a new rule?
Criteria
- Give the newcomer a usable sequence from preparation to arrival.
The purpose is practical guidance, not a copied note list.
- Preserve the relevant requirements and limits without inventing decisions.
A reader must not rely on equipment or plans that are not available.
- Select information for this audience and justify a helpful recommendation.
Reorganisation involves deciding relevance as well as order.
- Use clear instructions and links; distinguish requirements from optional advice.
The reader needs to tell what is necessary from what is suggested.
Review
Keep your first draft. For each criterion, quote evidence from your own text and mark evidenced, partial or not yet evidenced. Revise a weak passage and explain how the change helps this reader. If all four are evidenced, justify a specific factual or language check. Compare meaning with the guide; different wording is welcome, and matching the example does not by itself prove success.
