The jacket repair

CEFR A2126 words

Questions

You answer them with the text in front of you. It isn't memory: it's understanding.

  1. After the old photograph fails, what enables the narrator to collect the jacket without going home?

The brother sends a picture of the order paper — The shop requires the order paper or its photo. The narrator is there without the paper, and the brother at home sends its photo. New jacket or pocket pictures do not identify the order; the brother sends a photo rather than bringing the garment.

  2. Before the narrator calls for help, who is in the best position to photograph the item the shop requires?

The brother at home — The required item is the order paper. The narrator has arrived without it, while the brother is at home where he can find it; he can supply its photograph without coming to the shop.

  3. The narrator brings the order paper on Wednesday. Which collection condition would still prevent taking the jacket home as planned?

The collection day — The document meets the identification condition, but collection is Thursday, not Wednesday. The shop accepts the paper itself as well as a photograph.

  4. Whose photograph contains the information the assistant checks before returning the jacket?

The picture sent by the brother from home — The paper carries the order number. The brother sends its photograph, and the assistant checks that number before returning the jacket.

  5. Which event happened after the narrator found the old photo but before the brother sent his photo?

Arriving at the shop without the paper — The old photo is found on Wednesday. On Thursday the narrator arrives without the document; the brother sends the needed photo afterwards. The repair and lost coins are earlier.

  6. When the final photo is sent, who is away from the shop?

The brother only — The narrator is at the shop and the assistant checks the received photo there. The brother is at home, so only he is away from the shop.
