L'autobus perduto (The lost bus)

QCER A2126 parole

Last May our class went to a museum in another city. Forty students, two teachers and one bus.

The visit was fine. The problem started after lunch, when we walked to the square and the bus was not there.

Our teacher called the driver twice. Nothing. We waited for fifty minutes in the sun.

Then a woman came out of a café and told us the truth: that week buses could not stop in that square, so our driver was waiting two streets away, in front of a supermarket. He was calling us too. Nobody had signal.

We arrived home two hours late, hungry and angry with a bus that was never lost.

Now, when somebody in my class says 'I am waiting', we all laugh.

Domande

Si risponde con il testo davanti. Non è memoria: è capire.

  1. How many people travelled from the school?

Forty students and two teachers — Forty students, two teachers and one bus. L'autista non è in quel conto: è quello dell'autobus.

  2. They waited for ___ minutes in the sun.

fifty — We waited for fifty minutes in the sun: cinquanta minuti.

  3. The driver went home without the class.

False — Falso: stava aspettando due strade più in là, davanti a un supermercato, e per giunta li stava chiamando.

  4. Why did the telephone calls not work?

Because nobody had signal — Nobody had signal. Chiamavano da entrambe le parti; a non funzionare era il telefono, non le persone.

  5. Why does the writer say it was 'a bus that was never lost'?

Because the driver was two streets away all the time — L'autobus non è mai stato perso: era a due strade ad aspettare. A perdersi è stato il messaggio, non l'autobus.

  6. Why do they laugh now when somebody says 'I am waiting'?

Because it reminds all of them of that afternoon — L'ultima frase non spiega la battuta: la battuta è tutto il testo. Quel pomeriggio le due parti si stavano aspettando a due strade di distanza.
