O comboio para Girona (The train to Girona)

Last April my friend Paula and I went to Girona for the day. The train left Barcelona at half past eight and arrived forty minutes later.
We had a plan: the cathedral first, then lunch, then the old streets. We did not follow the plan. We walked into a narrow street with red and yellow houses, and we stayed there for an hour.
At two o'clock we were hungry, but we did not have much money. We bought bread, cheese and two oranges, and we ate on the steps of the cathedral. It was better than a restaurant.
We took some photos, but the best ones are not in my phone. They are in my head: the colours of the houses over the river, and Paula laughing with her mouth full of orange.

They could eat without spending much. — Tinham pouco dinheiro e compraram comida simples. Já tinham mudado o plano e comeram na catedral.
Why did they eat on the steps of the cathedral?
Because a restaurant cost too much — As duas ideias vêm seguidas: tinham fome MAS não tinham muito dinheiro. Por isso compram comida e sentam-se lá fora.
Why did they stay in the narrow street for an hour?
Because they liked the colourful houses — O texto não dá o motivo. És tu que o deduzes: a única coisa que descreve dessa rua são as casas vermelhas e amarelas, e no fim volta a nomeá-las como a sua melhor recordação.
What does the writer mean by 'the best ones are in my head'?
The strongest memories were not captured by the camera — Opõe o telemóvel à cabeça: as fotos existem, mas o que fica mesmo são as cores e a Paula a rir-se. Não fala de outro telemóvel.
