A janela com internet (The window with internet)
QECR A2115 palavras
My village has forty houses, one shop and very bad internet. In my house the internet only works in one place: the kitchen window.
So the kitchen window is the most important place in the family. My sister does her homework there. My father watches football matches there, standing up, with the phone in his hand. My mother sends her photos from there.
In summer, when my cousins are here, there is a queue.
The neighbours know it too. Sometimes a woman is outside our window with her phone, talking to her daughter in Germany. Nobody thinks this is strange.
We do not have good internet. We have a window that all the village knows.

Perguntas
Respondem-se com o texto à frente. Não é memória: é perceber.
Where does the internet work in the writer's house?
At the kitchen window — The internet only works in one place: the kitchen window. Só ali.
The village is big.
False — Falso: forty houses, one shop. Quarenta casas e uma loja é uma aldeia pequena.
Why does visiting family create a wait at the kitchen window?
More people need the same small area with a connection. — Só um ponto pequeno tem ligação e as visitas acrescentam utilizadores. Não se indica outro ponto mais rápido nem mudança pelos vizinhos.
Why does the father watch football standing up?
Because the signal is at the kitchen window — O texto só diz standing up, sem o explicar. Percebe-se com o parágrafo anterior: fora daquela janela não há internet, portanto não pode sentar-se no sofá.
What is the woman doing outside their window?
She is phoning her daughter in Germany — O texto não diz «usa a nossa internet»: diz que está fora DAQUELA janela, com o telemóvel, a falar com a filha na Alemanha. A janela é a única com cobertura.
What does the last line mean?
Poor internet makes the window a shared village meeting point — As duas frases opõem-se: não têm boa internet, têm uma janela. E o que a torna famosa é justamente o problema, não a solução.
