A noite de São João (Saint John's night)

Last June we spent the night of the twenty-third on the beach. It is the night of Saint John, and in my town everybody goes to the sea.
We arrived at ten with a bag of food and some wood. My cousins made a fire, and my grandmother sat in her chair and watched us like a queen.
At midnight people started to jump over the fire. My little brother wanted to jump too, but my mother said no. He cried for two minutes and then he forgot it, because a man arrived with a guitar.
At three in the morning some of us swam. The water was colder than I expected, and I shouted so loud that a dog on the other side of the beach began to bark.
We got home at six, with sand in our shoes and smoke in our hair.

Because the writer shouted when entering the cold water — A cadeia está numa só frase: a água estava mais fria do que esperava, por isso grita, e o grito chega ao cão do outro lado da praia.
The grandmother made the fire.
False — Falso: a fogueira é feita pelos primos (my cousins made a fire). A avó senta-se e olha.
