La entrenadora (The coach)
MCER A2122 palabras
I play basketball in a girls' team. We are not very good: this season we are last, and we are not winning many games.
But we have something the other teams do not have. Our coach is called Rosa and she is seventy years old. She cannot run, she cannot jump and she cannot show us anything with the ball. She only talks.
She talks about where to look, when to pass, and why the fastest player is not always the best one.
Today we are playing against the first team of the league. We are losing by twenty points and Rosa is not nervous. She is smiling.
'Look at the clock,' she says. 'We still have ten minutes to learn something.'

Preguntas
Se contestan con el texto delante. No es memoria: es entender.
What is the position of the team this season?
Last — This season we are last. El primero de la liga es el equipo contra el que juegan hoy.
Rosa shows the girls how to play with the ball.
False — Falso: she cannot show us anything with the ball. She only talks. Enseña hablando, no jugando.
Rosa is ___ years old.
seventy — She is seventy years old: setenta años, y por eso no puede correr ni saltar.
Why is Rosa a good coach if she cannot play?
Because she teaches them to think about the game — El texto no dice «es buena entrenadora»: enseña de qué habla. Dónde mirar, cuándo pasar y por qué el más rápido no es siempre el mejor. Eso no se corre, se piensa.
What is happening in today's game?
They are losing by twenty points — We are losing by twenty points, y aún quedan diez minutos.
What does Rosa mean by 'We still have ten minutes to learn something'?
That the important thing is not the result, it is learning — Fíjate en lo que pide: to LEARN something, no ganar. Y lo dice sonriendo mientras pierden de veinte. Para ella los diez minutos que quedan sirven para otra cosa.
