La ventana con internet (The window with internet)

MCER A2115 palabras

My village has forty houses, one shop and very bad internet. In my house the internet only works in one place: the kitchen window.

So the kitchen window is the most important place in the family. My sister does her homework there. My father watches football matches there, standing up, with the phone in his hand. My mother sends her photos from there.

In summer, when my cousins are here, there is a queue.

The neighbours know it too. Sometimes a woman is outside our window with her phone, talking to her daughter in Germany. Nobody thinks this is strange.

We do not have good internet. We have a window that all the village knows.

Preguntas

Se contestan con el texto delante. No es memoria: es entender.

  1. Where does the internet work in the writer's house?

Only at the kitchen window — The internet only works in one place: the kitchen window. Solo ahí.

  2. The village is big.

False — Falso: forty houses, one shop. Cuarenta casas y una tienda es un pueblo pequeño.

  3. In summer, when the cousins are there, there is a ___ at the window.

queue — There is a queue: cola, porque el sitio con internet es uno solo y quieren usarlo todos.

  4. Why does the father watch football standing up?

Because he has to stay at the window to have internet — El texto solo dice standing up, sin explicarlo. Se entiende con el párrafo anterior: fuera de esa ventana no hay internet, así que no puede sentarse en el sofá.

  5. What is the woman doing outside their window?

She is using their internet to talk to her daughter — El texto no dice «usa nuestro internet»: dice que está fuera de ESA ventana, con el móvil, hablando con su hija en Alemania. La ventana es la única con cobertura.

  6. What does the last line mean?

That the bad internet has turned their window into something of the whole village — Las dos frases se oponen: no tienen buen internet, tienen una ventana. Y lo que la hace famosa es justo el problema, no la solución.
