My grandmother is seventy-eight years old and she has a smartphone. It is a present from my uncle.
She uses it every day, but she uses it in her own way. She never writes messages: she sends voice messages, and they are very long. In one message she can talk for four minutes about her tomato plants.
She also has a problem with photos. When she takes a photo of my cousin, we can see the floor and half of his shoes. When she takes a photo of the sky, it is perfect.
Now she is learning video calls. On Sundays the whole family is on the screen at the same time, and everybody is talking. My grandmother says nothing. She only looks at us and smiles.
She does not understand the phone very well. She understands the important thing.

Because she is happy just looking at all the family together — A frase seguinte di-lo sem o explicar: she only looks at us and SMILES. Não se cala por zanga nem por avaria.
What does the last line mean: 'She understands the important thing'?
That for her the phone is a way to be with her family — As duas últimas frases opõem-se de propósito: não percebe o aparelho, mas percebe para que serve. Isso é o importante.
