Two fictional school/community documents, written in English for this activity. Source A: Activity report: A lunchtime chess table attracted more visits after a new sign was installed. Source B: Coordinator note: The table also moved closer to the canteen that week. The report records visits during both changes without separating their effects.

  1. A primeira fonte estabelece o ponto de partida: Activity report: A lunchtime chess table attracted more visits after a new sign was installed.
  2. A segunda introduz a precisão que precisa acompanhar a informação: Coordinator note: The table also moved closer to the canteen that week. The report records visits during both changes without separating their effects.
  3. A revisão conserva a relação entre ambas: A rise during simultaneous changes does not isolate the new sign's effect.

Visits increased after the sign and location changed; the report does not isolate either contribution.

Concluir e extrapolar

  • Versão que amplia o alcance

The report proves that the sign alone increased visits.

  • Versão que preserva o caso

Visits increased after the sign and location changed; the report does not isolate either contribution.

Uma frase isolada não fecha o caso

The report proves that the sign alone increased visits.

Visits increased after the sign and location changed; the report does not isolate either contribution.

Conclusão verificável: A rise during simultaneous changes does not isolate the new sign's effect.

Fonte A: Volunteer poster: Applications close on Monday. The printed poster uses a pale text colour and directs applicants to a website for the required documents. Fonte B: Feedback note: The website is readable, but the closing date is hard to see on the poster. Some applicants read only the printed copy; they need a clear deadline and a way to request the document list offline.

Resposta: Legibility on a different channel does not repair this local barrier. → Improve the visibility of the deadline on the physical copy.; The information must reach people who use only the printed version. → Offer a way to obtain the required-document list without internet.; One usable surface cannot establish accessibility of the whole communication. → Evaluate the display and its audience in their own setting.

Improve the visibility of the deadline on the physical copy. Legibility on a different channel does not repair this local barrier. Offer a way to obtain the required-document list without internet. The information must reach people who use only the printed version. Evaluate the display and its audience in their own setting. One usable surface cannot establish accessibility of the whole communication.

Fonte A: Student review: The short documentary is excellent for beginners because it uses familiar words. It also assumes viewers know the local dispute and leaves its main participants unnamed. Fonte B: Teacher note: Our visiting class knows little about the dispute. A useful recommendation for them should consider background information as well as vocabulary.

Resposta: A proficiency label does not determine contextual familiarity. → Adapt the advice to the recipients' knowledge.; Lexical familiarity is only one component of understanding. → Consider the assumed background as another criterion.; The intended audience lacks information the documentary presupposes. → Introduce the dispute and the people involved.

Consider the assumed background as another criterion. Lexical familiarity is only one component of understanding. Introduce the dispute and the people involved. The intended audience lacks information the documentary presupposes. Adapt the advice to the recipients' knowledge. A proficiency label does not determine contextual familiarity.

Fonte A: School blog: Responses to our online travel poll suggest that cycling is popular. The link was shared only in the cycling club's message group. Fonte B: Council memo: The blog proposes reducing bus spaces on the basis of the poll. Students who use buses were not directly invited, and the poll did not ask how often anyone cycles. Afirmação a revisar: “Our online poll shows that daily cycling across the school justifies fewer bus spaces.”

  • Preserva alcance, condições, referentes e qualquer incerteza pertinente.

Resposta: Your aim is to inform readers clearly. I suggest this revision: The poll reflects responses recruited through the cycling club; consult bus users and measure travel frequency before proposing fewer bus spaces. Before extending it, check this point: The documents do not establish the preferences of students outside the cycling club.

Contraste de evidências: School blog: Responses to our online travel poll suggest that cycling is popular. The link was shared only in the cycling club's message group. / Council memo: The blog proposes reducing bus spaces on the basis of the poll. Students who use buses were not directly invited, and the poll did not ask how often anyone cycles. Aplicação ao caso: The recruitment channel and missing frequency question both limit the proposed transport decision.

Fonte A: News brief dated Tuesday: The pedestrian bridge is due to reopen on Friday, subject to a final inspection. The brief quotes the contractor's timetable. Fonte B: Inspection note dated Thursday: A repair remains unfinished, so reopening has not been approved. A community account reposted Tuesday's brief on Thursday without its original date. Afirmação a revisar: “A Thursday repost confirms approved Friday reopening despite the pending repair.”

    • Preserva alcance, condições, referentes e qualquer incerteza pertinente.

Resposta: For students new to this activity: Check the inspection status rather than treating the Thursday repost as new approval. The sources do not provide an approved replacement opening date.

Contraste de evidências: News brief dated Tuesday: The pedestrian bridge is due to reopen on Friday, subject to a final inspection. The brief quotes the contractor's timetable. / Inspection note dated Thursday: A repair remains unfinished, so reopening has not been approved. A community account reposted Tuesday's brief on Thursday without its original date. Aplicação ao caso: A newer repost can carry older, conditional information rather than a new decision.

Fonte A: Archive catalogue: The interview transcripts may be read for school research. Quotations in publications require permission from the archive and acknowledgement of the speaker. Fonte B: Project note: A group downloaded a transcript and wants to put a quotation on a public campaign page. Its draft credits the archive but does not name the speaker or record publication permission. Afirmação a revisar: “Our download and archive credit already authorize the public campaign quotation.”

    • Preserva alcance, condições, referentes e qualquer incerteza pertinente.

Resposta: Reading access allowed research, but it did not supply the missing publication permission. Has the archive granted permission for this campaign quotation? The catalogue does not establish that permission will be granted.

O pedido precisa nomear o dado ausente e explicar qual decisão depende dele. Contraste de evidências: Archive catalogue: The interview transcripts may be read for school research. Quotations in publications require permission from the archive and acknowledgement of the speaker. / Project note: A group downloaded a transcript and wants to put a quotation on a public campaign page. Its draft credits the archive but does not name the speaker or record publication permission. Aplicação ao caso: Access rights and publication rights require separate checks, alongside attribution.

Fonte A: Exhibition draft: A student editor describes a local community as a place where tradition has not changed. The draft uses one visitor's account and has not been reviewed by residents. Fonte B: Resident response: People maintain some practices while adapting others. The visitor saw a festival, not everyday life; residents offer to contribute several accounts before the display is printed. Afirmação a revisar: “One festival account establishes that the community's daily life is unchanged.”

    • Preserva alcance, condições, referentes e qualquer incerteza pertinente.

Resposta: Imagine residents preserving festival practices while changing everyday routines: the visitor’s festival account would remain genuine without establishing an unchanged way of life. Changing whose voice is heard does not justify replacing one generalization with another.

Contraste de evidências: Exhibition draft: A student editor describes a local community as a place where tradition has not changed. The draft uses one visitor's account and has not been reviewed by residents. / Resident response: People maintain some practices while adapting others. The visitor saw a festival, not everyday life; residents offer to contribute several accounts before the display is printed. Aplicação ao caso: Changing whose voice is heard does not justify replacing one generalization with another.

Fonte A: Editorial draft: Moving the debate online will make participation easier because students can post from home. The proposal leaves the posting window open only during the evening. Fonte B: Student feedback: Some students share a phone with family members in the evening. They support an online option if a school access period is included; they do not ask to cancel the debate. Afirmação a revisar: “Students oppose an online debate, so the proposal should be withdrawn.”

    • Preserva alcance, condições, referentes e qualquer incerteza pertinente.

Resposta: The criterion is whether the proposed statement preserves the conditions and scope of both documents. An objection to an access condition is different from rejection of the whole proposal. Students support an online option with a school access period; revise the evening-only arrangement rather than withdrawing the debate. The feedback does not specify how many students share phones.

Contraste de evidências: Editorial draft: Moving the debate online will make participation easier because students can post from home. The proposal leaves the posting window open only during the evening. / Student feedback: Some students share a phone with family members in the evening. They support an online option if a school access period is included; they do not ask to cancel the debate. Aplicação ao caso: An objection to an access condition is different from rejection of the whole proposal.
