Two set phrases, and neither translates word for word. venir de + infinitive is what has just happened: je viens de manger. être en train de + infinitive is what is happening right now. And note: French has no continuous tense, so je mange is usually enough.
The usual slip. Translating I am eating as «je suis mangeant». That construction does not exist in French.
Why it catches you out. Your language uses the continuous for almost everything, so you will reach for it every second sentence. French has no continuous at all, and être en train de is a heavy phrase you only use when the ongoing part really matters.
