Volver a Inglés

No repetir: so do I, I think so, the blue one

MCER C1

Qué vas a aprender

— Yes, I do. Are you coming? — I am. She hasn't finished, but he has.

En afirmativa, so más auxiliar más sujeto: I love this song. — So do I. En negativa, neither o nor con el mismo orden: I don't smoke. — Neither do I. Fíjate en que el orden se invierte: es so do I, nunca «so I do» con ese significado.

El segundo recurso es one y ones, que sustituyen a un nombre ya dicho: I'll take the blue one. Which ones do you prefer?

Is it going to rain? — I think so. Su negativa tiene dos formas: I don't think so es lo normal, y I think not es formal y más raro.

El cuarto es do so o do it para no repetir toda una acción: She asked me to sign the form, and I did so. En registro hablado se prefiere do it o simplemente el eco: and I did.

Y el quinto, el más silencioso: la elipsis después de and, but y or, cuando el sujeto o el verbo se repiten. I opened the door and walked in. She can sing but can't dance.

  • I've never been to Japan. — Neither have I.Negativa: neither más auxiliar más sujeto, con el orden invertido.
  • She works harder than he does.
  • These shoes are nice, but I prefer the black ones.
  • Will they accept the offer? — I hope so.So sustituye a la frase entera detrás de hope.
  • He opened the letter, read it twice and put it away.

  1. Usa esta imagen

Ariadna chose the glass bowls; Bruno chose the ceramic bowls. Rewrite the second noun phrase without repeating bowls.

the ceramic ones — Bowls es plural y contable; the ceramic ones sustituye el sintagma nominal ya identificado.

  2. Usa esta imagen

The evidence points against today's reopening, but the speaker remains cautious. Choose the concise reply to 'Will the archive reopen today?'.

I don't suppose so — Con suppose, la sustitución negativa idiomática es I don't suppose so; la negación recae en el verbo y so sustituye la proposición.

  3. Usa esta imagen

The northern team met the deadline, and the southern team completed the same task too. Choose the concise continuation.

so did the southern team — El acuerdo afirmativo sobre otro sujeto usa so + auxiliar coincidente + sujeto.

You've got a stain on your shirt. — So I have!
  • One y ones no sustituyen a incontables: ahí se repite el nombre o se usa some.I need milk. — I'll buy some. (no «a milk one»)
  • Después de to, la elipsis deja el to solo, y es correcto.I didn't want to go, but I had to.
  • Do so no vale con verbos de estado: solo sustituye acciones. He knows the answer. (no «and I do so»)

Se dice mal I also. I think yes.

Se dice bien So do I. / Neither do I. / I think so.
