Relativas de nível alto: whom, of which e a vírgula que muda o sentido
QECR C1
A ideia
Compara estas duas: My brother who lives in Berlin is a doctor diz que tenho vários irmãos e falo do de Berlim.
Se o pronome for sujeito, não se pode tirar: The man who called you.
No fim é o natural: the issue we talked about. À frente do relativo é formal e obriga a which ou whom: the issue about which we talked. Nunca «about that».
Mais dois recursos, muito de C1. Of which e of whom para quantificar: There were forty applicants, ten of whom were shortlisted. E which a comentar a frase inteira, não um nome: He arrived two hours late, which annoyed everyone.
Tira-se o relativo e o verbo to be, e fica um particípio. The report which was published yesterday passa a The report published yesterday. Com -ing funciona igual: The woman who is standing there dá The woman standing there.

Como soa
- The house, which was built in 1890, needs a new roof.Com vírgulas, which obrigatório: aqui that seria um erro.
- The candidate we interviewed yesterday has accepted the offer.
- She has three sisters, none of whom live in Spain.Of whom quantifica dentro da relativa. Com coisas seria of which.
- He forgot to send the file, which delayed the whole project.
- The measures introduced last year have had little effect.Relativa reduzida: cabe which were à frente de introduced e não é preciso.

Agora tu
Only one consultant reviewed the draft. Add the fact that she lives in Porto without suggesting a choice among consultants.
the consultant, who lives in Porto, reviewed the draft — Com um referente já único, a informação é incidental e vai entre vírgulas; who funciona como sujeito.
Combine the facts in one formal sentence: 'The panel interviewed six applicants. Two of the applicants had led similar projects.'
the panel interviewed six applicants, two of whom had led similar projects — Depois de quantificador + of e com antecedente humano usa-se whom.
Choose the sentence where which comments on the whole preceding event.
the server failed twice, which delayed the launch — A vírgula e which permitem que a relativa comente o facto completo de o servidor ter falhado duas vezes.
- That é obrigatório, e which impossível, depois de superlativos e de all, everything, the only e the first. It's the best film that I've ever seen. Everything that happened was recorded.
- Whose funciona com coisas além de com pessoas, embora muitos falantes o evitem e prefiram of which.a company whose profits have fallen
- Where, when e why substituem a preposição mais which, e não levam preposição à frente.the town where I grew up (= in which I grew up)
Aí vai that ou nada.the things that he said (no «the things what he said»)
O que a tua língua te empurra a dizer
Diz-se mal The colleague which helped me is the one what knows the system.
Diz-se bem The colleague who helped me is the one that knows the system.
