Qué vas a aprender
- Reconocer verbo to be: am, is y are en ejemplos breves.
- Elegir una forma de verbo to be: am, is y are a partir de evidencia visual explícita.
Tres formas y ninguna más: I am. He, she, it is. You, we, they are.
It is late.
I am not ready. She is not at home. They are not my friends. Al hablar se contraen: she isn't, they aren't. Con I la contracción normal es I'm not.
You are tired se convierte en Are you tired? He is your brother pasa a Is he your brother? No hace falta do para nada: to be se pregunta solo. Y se contesta corto: Yes, I am. No, he isn't.
Con to be se dice quién eres, de dónde eres, qué edad tienes, cómo estás y dónde estás: I am Marta. I am from Lisbon. I am twelve years old. I am tired. I am at school. Ahí está el aviso más importante para ti: la edad, el hambre, el frío y el miedo van con to be, nunca con have.

Cómo suena
- I am Marta and I am from Portugal.
- She is my sister. She is not my cousin.La forma no cambia al negar: is sigue siendo is y solo se le añade not detrás.
- Are you ready?
- It is very cold today.
- My parents are teachers.Dos personas, are.

Look at the woman and the cat. Choose the sentence that matches the picture.
The woman is beside the cat. — The woman es un grupo nominal singular: se usa is.
Look at the group of three friends. Choose the correct sentence.
The three friends are together. — Three friends es plural: se usa are.
Look at the single cat. Which sentence identifies it correctly?
It is a cat.
- I am not no tiene una contracción como isn't o aren't: se dice I'm not y punto. En pregunta negativa el inglés usa Aren't I…?, que parece un error y no lo es.I'm not late. Aren't I late?
There is a chair. There are two chairs.
The news, mathematics y physics llevan is.The news is good today.
- People es plural aunque no acabe en -s: lleva are.The people in my class are very friendly.
Se dice mal I am agree with you.
Se dice bien I agree with you.
